With a strong drive to promote the rights and well-being of women in society, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, in collaboration with the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, organized a film-viewing activity to raise awareness about the issue of gender-based violence on 29 November 2023 at the DTI R2 Negosyo Center Hall, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City.

The highlight of the said activity was a film viewing entitled “We Remember” which showcased the stories of women who have experienced abuse and violence in one way or another.

Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo vowed her unwavering commitment to advocate for the protection of the rights of women and their children from any forms of violence. “We have to be conscious of the rights of women, especially fathers, husbands, and brothers who are entrusted with the responsibility to protect their mothers, sisters, and wives. Definitely, this event is just the first partnership between DTI and Zonta in so far as advocacy is concerned,” RD Ocampo said.

In the message of Atty. Marjorie P. Martin-Chan, City Councilor and President of the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao, informed the group that the activity intends to spread awareness and stop abuse against women. “The film viewing is an approach to advocating the cause and encouraging support from government employees who are at the forefront of public service to protect rights regardless of age and gender. We must inculcate rights protection into our mandate as a government agency,” Atty. Martin-Chan added.

During the closing program, Assistant Regional Director Winston T. Singun narrated his daughter’s experience, which caused her to feel fear. To address the issue, his instinct as a father prevailed to protect his daughter and confronted individuals concerned. Finally, ARD Singun extended his appreciation to the Zonta Club for bringing advocacy closer to DTI employees.

As a gesture of support, officials and employees of the DTI Regional Office joined the activity together with the officials of the Zonta Club of Central Tuguegarao.

This event is in celebration of the 5th day of Remembrance of the 16 Days of Action to Stop VAWC. ♦
