The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) proudly unveiled the TRUST Program – a collaborative effort designed to promote awareness, understanding, and sensitivity towards differently-abled persons in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan on 08 August 2023

The TRUST Program, short for “Treating Rightly with Utmost Sensitivity Towards Persons with Disability,” marked a significant milestone in DTI’s commitment to inclusivity and equal rights. The program served as a platform to educate and empower service providers in both the public and private sectors with the aim of ensuring that Persons with disabilities were accorded the respect, support, and care they rightfully deserved. Furthermore, the TRUST Program aimed to address the need for sensitivity and empathy when interacting with differently-abled persons, fostering a culture of respect, and understanding.

The program entailed a comprehensive orientation on the pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines concerning the rights of differently-abled persons, including Republic Act No. 7277 or the “Magna Carta for Disabled Persons,” as well as the Republic Act No. 9442 and 10754.

Key highlights of the TRUST Program included:

  • In-depth Workshops: Tailored workshops were conducted by experts in the fields of disability rights, inclusivity, and communication. Participants gained a deep understanding of the sector’s needs, challenges, and aspirations.
  • Legal Insights: Participants received detailed insights into the legal frameworks that safeguarded PWDs’ rights, ensuring that service providers were well-versed in the legal obligations they must uphold.
  • Interactive Simulations: Practical simulations provided participants with hands-on experiences that simulated real-life interactions with people included in the sector, helping them develop the skills necessary to provide effective support.
  • Recognition and Certification: Upon completion of the program, participants received certification from DTI, showcasing their commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all.

The partnership between DTI and DSWD signified a collaborative approach to fostering change at both the private and public levels. By joining forces, these government agencies aimed to create a ripple effect that extended beyond the confines of the program, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive society that valued and supported the rights of PWDs.

The TRUST Program was launched in the different provinces with the following schedules:

  • August 08, 2023 – Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
  • August 09, 2023 – Reyna Mercedes, Isabela
  • September 04, 2023 – Diffun, Quirino
  • September 05, 2023 – Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya

The event promised to be an inspiring occasion that highlighted the importance of unity in championing the cause of inclusivity.
