The Department of Trade and Industry-Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) shows its support to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) by participating in the 2023 Interlaboratory Comparison Exercises for its Laboratory Analysts on August 15, 2023, held at Luxent Hotel, Timog Avenue, Quezon City. The activity was hosted by DENR-EMB, and personnel from each EMB Regional Environmental Laboratory actively participated in the event.

PAB through Ms. Michelle Esteban, Chief of the Laboratory Accreditation Division (LAD), served as the resource speaker and discussed about PAB’s laboratory accreditation process and requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories). By joining this activity, PAB was able to impart information and guidance to EMB laboratories as they prepare for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Accreditation based on ISO/IEC 17025 can benefit DENR-EMB laboratories in ensuring the reliability of their test results as well as the integrity, competence, and overall quality of the laboratory’s services. Gaining accreditation for the regulator’s own conformity assessment services, like DENR, shows a commitment to providing a high standard of service quality for their clientele and other interested parties.

The event was a follow-through of the meeting held on July 26, 2023, which aimed to provide DENR personnel with a comprehensive understanding of accreditation benefits that can obtain through ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

The interlaboratory exercise is an annual gathering of EMB laboratories staff where they discuss the current issues they encounter, harmonize their approach and techniques in the analysis, and discuss how they can optimize their resources to ensure that personnel can respond to the needs of policymakers without compromising the quality of their work.
