The Department of Trade and Industry R2 Cagayan, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU), successfully launched the 2024 Serbisyo Caravan in the island municipality of Calayan, Cagayan from 15-19 April 2024.

This initiative, aligned with the agency’s mantra of “Serbisyong Higit Pa Sa Inaasahan”, aimed to deliver essential government services right at the doorsteps of the residents on the island. The event featured key activities including three specialized skills training workshops: Basic Skills Training on Coconut Handicrafts, Basic Skills Training on Coconut Processing, and Upgrading Skills Training on Souvenir Making. These workshops were designed to equip participants with essential skills to initiate or expand their businesses, fostering local entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Mayor Joseph M. Llopis, represented by Municipal Administrator Catherine Singun, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for their invaluable contribution to the community’s development through these training initiatives.

As a response, CTIDS Lourdito B. Antonio, from the Consumer Protection Division also extended the agency’s sincere appreciation to the LGU Calayan for their unwavering partnership. He introduced a range of activities designed to elevate local product development and invigorate the tourism sector, underscoring their potential to enrich the community’s economic landscape.

Meanwhile, TIDS-CARP Andre M. Abique introduced and conveyed gratitude to the participants and trainers for their dedication. Municipal Planning and Development Officer Julius Addatu assured the selected trainees of comprehensive support, ensuring they receive essential materials, equipment, and machinery to bolster their entrepreneurial pursuits.

The agenda also encompassed a Local Price Coordinating Council Meeting, price monitoring, alongside a consultation session with Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs). The team also monitored and evaluated the Shared Service Facility dedicated to Fish Processing, conducted profiling of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within priority industries, inventory, and assessment of equipment, supplies, and machinery housed in both the Negosyo Center and Shared Service Facility.
