In a bid to create a level playing field for both consumers and businesses, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 (DTI R2), headed by Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo, through its Consumer Protection Division, held the 13th Cagayan Valley Consumer Assembly today at the NGN Gran Hotel, Enrile Avenue, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

In celebrating Consumer Welfare Month this October 2023, themed “GenS: Generation Sustainable,” DTI R2 focused on promoting a harmonious economic landscape where consumer protection and business development coexist.

“We recognize that we need the cooperation of businesses, consumers, the government, the academe, the people’s organizations, the media, and other sectors of society to empower consumers and create a flourishing economy without prejudice to the environment,”, said RD Ocampo.

By conducting a fair-trade law seminar, hosting a stakeholder’s consultation addressing critical topics such as the stability of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs), consumer concerns about financial services and credit transactions, and elaborating sustainable consumption in relation to environmental conservation, participants can now create a balanced and sustainable economic landscape for all.

Various stakeholders, including business owners, MSMEs, barangay enterprises (BEs), consumer organizations, representatives from academia, civic organizations, national government agencies (NGAs), and local government units (LGUs), were also reoriented on the above topics.

DTI Region 2 remains steadfast in its mission to promote consumer protection and business development, underscoring the significance of collaboration among all stakeholders in achieving these critical goals. #
