The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) spearheaded the celebration of the 122nd Labor Day this 01 May 2024, at SM City Tuguegarao, with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 Regional Director Leah Pulido-Ocampo as the keynote speaker in the opening program.

During her speech, RD Ocampo acknowledged the role of the Filipino workforce in building a new Philippines, calling for the championing of their rights and welfare. RD Ocampo also reported the recent strides that Region 2 has made over the past year in creating an environment conducive to the growth and development of enterprises, which had resulted to the creation of employment opportunities for the people. She then reiterated the commitment of the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB), of which the DTI is a member of along with DOLE and NEDA, to protect the rights of each and every Filipino worker. Together with RD Ocampo, the event received full support from the DTI R2 Cagayan led by PD Henry O. Conel, Jr., alongside other collaborating line agencies.

In this year’s Labor Day celebration, various activities were conducted, including a Government Service Caravan, Kadiwa ng Pangulo para sa Manggagawa, Business/Trade Fair & Diskwento Fair, TUPAD Payout, and a TESDA Skills/Technology Demo Display.

DOLE had also organized a Job Fair for aspiring applicants and job seekers, with over 300 local and overseas employment agencies participating, hiring new employees on the spot.

Workers from Region 2 were also offered medical services from the various medical institutions from the region such as the Doctors Medical Center (CUDMC), Holy Infant Hospital, Ace Medical Center and the Ronald P. Guzman Medical Center (RPGMC).

Apart from the employment opportunities for workers, LGUs also benefitted from the event with 18 LGUs of the Cagayan Province having received financial support totaling P18 Million from DOLE R2. ♦
