The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 gathered the members of the Regional MSME Development Council, coming from the different Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), the MSME and private sectors, the academe, and other relevant stakeholders, to lay down their priority Programs, Activities, and Projects (PAPs) for MSMEs through the 1st Quarter RMSMED Council meeting held at the DTI R2 Negosyo Center Hall on 12 April 2024.

DTI R2 Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo, Chairwoman of the RMSMEDC, led the discussion and emphasized the role of the council as a platform to align, synergize, and collaborate in propelling development for industries and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) toward the attainment of the region’s development goals of improving the business environment, capacities, and opportunities of MSMEs.

Aside from the council member’s presentation of programs and commitments for MSMEs, the outputs during the small group discussions of the council held last June 2023 were tackled, which delved into the proposed PAPs to be implemented anchored in the strategic goals of the MSME Development Plan (MSMEDP). Each partner and member agency also reaffirmed their support for equipping the MSMEs with the proper interventions.

More so, initial talks for this year’s 2nd Regional MSME Summit and the process of screening nominees for the Presidential Awards for Outstanding MSMEs and Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Development Partners were discussed during the meeting.

In closing, RMSMED Council Co-Chairman Gary Chong of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged the council to sustain collaboration and strengthen convergence efforts on the needed approach to the development of MSMEs.
