NORTHERN MINDANAO – National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Region 10 hosted the 3rd Consumer Network (ConsumerNet) Meeting with a focus on Food Safety in the NMIS-10 Office, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental on October 17, 2023.

The session is in celebration of the 30th Meat Safety Consciousness Week with the theme, “Safe Meat | Healthy Nation.”

Dr. Bernadeth L. Montenegro of NMIS-10 gave the meeting participants tips to achieve food safety at home.

The following are also the five basic keys to food safety as recommended by the World Health Organization:

  1. Use safe water and raw materials;
  2. Cook foods thoroughly;
  3. Keep clean (and wash hands);
  4. Keep foods at the proper temperature; and
  5. Separate raw food from cooked food.

Aside from the consumer awareness on meat, Police Major Ray Vincent Magto of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 10 also gave an awareness campaign on Anti-Cybercrime Law.

PMAJ Magto discussed cybercrime offenses, relevant laws on cybercrime, and the strategies for preventing scams.

The meeting was attended by focal persons from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Civil Service Commission, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of the Interior and Local Government , Food and Drug Administration, Department of Trade and Industry, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Environmental Management Bureau, Department of Agriculture-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division, and NMIS.
