On 19 April 2024, DTI R2 Batanes celebrated another milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of a Training Center located besides its present provincial office in Sitio Sayad, Barangay Kaychanarianan, Basco, Batanes.

Pivotal to this endeavor is the generous support of the office of the Congressman, Honorable Ciriaco B. Gato, whose unwavering commitment to our community has been instrumental in securing the necessary funding for this project and to Governor Cayco, who has always been supportive to DTI R2 Batanes’ trainings. We extend our deepest gratitude to the province’s leaders as they assure continuous support to the programs, projects, and activities of DTI R2 Batanes.

This initiative stemmed from discussions held with Congressman Gato in March 2023, when DTI R2 Batanes, under the leadership of Provincial Director Ellerie Mila G. Ramel, presented its 1st Quarter Accomplishments. During the meeting, PD Ramel raised concerns, including the lack of a training facility. Responding promptly to this issue, the Congressman advocated for the funding in Congress, which was consequently approved and included in the 2024 budget.

With the training center in place, DTI R2 Batanes, will now have a venue to conduct its seminars and trainings, without delay and is cost-effective especially if the training needs are frequent.

DTI R2 Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo profusely thanked the Honorable Congressman for the project and express her hope for the realization of the next phase of this project. She also extended her gratitude to the Honorable Governor Marilou H. Cayco for her equally gracious support to the agency’s various programs and projects.

With RD Leah Pulido Ocampo during the event was Provincial Director Ellerie Mila G. Ramel, Hon. Congressman Ciriaco B. Gato Jr. and Hon. Governor Marilou H. Cayco, represented by the Provincial Administrator Justinne Jerico Socito.

Engr. Mayvelyn G. Punzal who briefed the attendees on the project’s scope mentioned that without any unforeseen instances that could delay the construction of the building, the training center is expected to be finished at around August of the year.

Also present during the ceremony were DTI R2 Batanes Consumer Protection Unit Head Meryll A. Hortiz, Business Development Unit Head Liz Minerva F. Raterta and staff, the Batanes District Engineering Office, the implementing agency of the project which was represented by the Assistant District Engineer, Engineer Rederick Hornedo and the Project Facilitator, Ms. Kathleene Kaye C.
