NORTHERN MINDANAO – To strengthen the marketing and promotion efforts of coffee in Region 10, the Rural Agro-enterprise Partnership for Inclusive Development (RAPID) and Growth Special Project of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 10 organized a Regional Coffee Appreciation Session for the coffee coordinators of DTI-10 and RAPID Growth and Coffee Council representatives and anchor firms in the region.
RAPID Growth is a value chain-based and market-driven business development initiative that aims to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic development for rural farming communities in the country.
One of the agricultural value chains the project is assisting is coffee. This commodity is also among the priority industry clusters that is being developed by DTI.
The Regional Coffee Appreciation Day is an avenue for the DTI-10 and RAPID Growth coffee coordinators to further understand the local coffee products in the region, including its origin, types, and quality factors. It aims to provide invaluable information necessary in making strategic decisions about product positioning and marketing strategies.
The one-day activity included a presentation on the Philippine Coffee Industry Roadmap 2021-2025 and lecture on Coffee Production, Current Market Trends, and Consumer Preferences and Coffee Brewing Methods. It was followed with a Coffee Appreciation Demo: Coffee Cupping and Brewing Method which is Pour Over and French Press.
The lecture on Coffee Brewing Methods and conduct of coffee brewing exercise was facilitated by Mr. Rolando Mirondo, Professional Barista and Proprietor of Linear Coffee Roasters. ♦
