KALINGA — On February 6, 2023, the Manuel S. Agyao (MSA) Boulevard stretch in front of Bayle Super Mart Bulanao saw the official opening of the Kalinga Treasures Fair 2023, which featured a variety of locally produced goods like processed foods, coffee, wearables, and home décor, furniture and fixtures, and handicrafts. The exposition is part of the province’s celebration of the 28th Kalinga Foundation Day and the 4th Bodong Festival. The trade fair’s opening was marked by the ribbon cutting by Governor James Edduba, Congressman Allen Jess Mangaoang, Vice Governor Jocel Baac, Department of Trade and Industry-CAR OIC-Regional Director Juliet Lucas, DTI -Region 1 RD Grace Baluyan, Department of Agriculture RD Danilo Daguio, DTI Kalinga PD Renie Ramos together with the officials of the Kalinga LGU and CTCKAPI Member-Exhibitors.
OIC-Regional Director Lucas conveyed her gratitude to the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that continue to develop products, which create employment and income streams that contribute to the development and expansion of Kalinga’s local economy. The region’s trade head said events such as trade fairs have been growing in popularity, proven through increased participation, variety in product displays, the dynamism of product development, and the wider sphere of product distribution, indicating increased confidence among Kalinga producers.
Governor Edubba also expressed his gratitude to DTI Kalinga, the Chamber of Tabuk City-Kalinga Producers, Inc. (CTCKAPI), and all the participating individuals and business groups who collaborated to offer and display Kalinga’s native delicacies, homegrown products, and indigenous handicrafts to locals and tourists. He noted that the event is a testament to the ability to overcome insurmountable odds and speaks of resilience, hope, and taking hold of the Ykalinga courageous spirit. The ingenuity of the MSMEs has opened opportunities to be competitive both in the local and national platforms. The MSME’s strong will and courage to bounce back from setbacks as business owners are exceptional.
Congressman Mangaoag also commended the DTI for its continuous support to the small business sector that is keeping the economy vibrant. “Dawatek Ing kadagiti negosyante tayo nga nu anyaman ti namnam-en ti DTI nga magun-od tayo babaen kadagitoy nga capability building programs kalikaguman tayo koma nga maragpat daytoy,” he said. He also assured that he would support programs and policies that would further empower small entrepreneurs.
