320 kilos of Quirino Province’s Ube Powder, manufactured by JaBes of Quirino State University, were already received by a prospective buyer in Japan, who intends to use the raw material in mass producing ube ice cream.

This export undertaking is a result of the various intervention programs undertaken by the Quirino Young Entrepreneurs Association for their ube powder, such as technology transfer, product development, quality standard certification, and market promotions.

The said activities were conducted by DTI Region 2 in collaboration with DTI R2 Quirino, Quirino State University, and the Provincial Government of Quirino.

Meanwhile, to make the product and its quality export-ready, the DTI engaged the services of SGS Philippines to provide consulting services, particularly on GMP and SSOP.

To connect the different segments of the ube powder value chain, the DTI linked the product with a Japanese firm that expressed interest in the ube powder.

This is not the first time that the ube powder has reached other counties. The first one was in South Korea, where the product was showcased at the Global Agricultural Product Expo held in Jeonju, South Korea.

DTI R2 hopes that the undertaking will fully prosper in the coming months as it thrives to position the region as a major player in the global value chain. #
