VICTORIA, LAGUNA — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) signed on 13 January 2023 a Memorandum of Agreement regarding the Government Internship Program (GIP) at 2F Training Room, DTI – Laguna Provincial Office in Victoria, Laguna.
GIP provides three to six months of internship opportunity for high school, technical-vocational, or college graduates, particularly poor/indigent, to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate objective of attracting the best and the brightest who want to pursue a career in government service, particularly in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment.
With the mandate to monitor prices of Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities and other special products, DTI – Laguna partnered with DOLE – Laguna thru the latter’s GIP. This 2023, seventeen (17) interns are onboarded in the DOLE GIP and are now assisting DTI – Laguna in price monitoring activities, frontline services and other support requirements of other divisions/units. This partnership between DTI – Laguna and DOLE – Laguna can serve as an avenue for the interns to be exposed to government services that require survey, interview, analysis, write-up/communication, data handling, client handling, and other tasks with public service trust.
Present in the signing of the said memorandum were DTI – Regional Operations Group Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona, DTI – IVA OIC Regional Director Marissa C. Argente, DTI – IVA OIC Assistant Regional Director Revelyn A. Cortez, DTI – Laguna OIC Provincial Director Cesar German L. Gerpacio, DOLE – IVA Regional Director Atty. Ma. Karina B. Perida-Trayvilla, and DOLE – Laguna Provincial Director Guido R. Recio and other DTI – IVA’s Provincial Directors.
In their inspirational messages during the signing of Memorandum of Agreement, USec. Lantayona mentioned that she became inspired by the vision of GIP and the tie-up project of DOLE and DTI and further encouraged the GIP interns to maximize their time in DTI to learn not just its programs but also the services they offer to entrepreneurs and consumers. RD Perida-Trayvilla, in addition to, conveyed in her message that the main reason behind GIP was the goal to push more youth into employment and eventually inspire them to become public servants thru linkages with government agencies. ♦
