Business name registration can be done through bnrs.dti.gov.ph online portal or through the nearest DTI or Negosyo Center.

KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 12 reminds the entrepreneurs who wish to open a sole proprietorship business to register their business name with the agency’s online portal or through the nearest DTI field office or Negosyo Center.

Flora Politud-Gabunales, OIC Regional Director of DTI-12, said that business establishments with registered business names are guaranteed legal identity and an exclusive right to use said business names.

The reminder of Politud-Gabunales is in accordance with the DTI Department Administrative Order (DAO) 18-07, Series of 2018 or the “Revised Rules and Regulations Implementing Act No. 3883 as amended, otherwise known as An Act to Regulate the Use in Business Transactions of Names Other Than True Names,” which mandates that a person intending to engage in business is required to first register with DTI a name, other than its true name before such name is used in any business transactions.

“We are reminding our budding entrepreneurs to start your business right by having your business name registered with DTI for its legal identity, and for you to enjoy the benefits from the exclusive right to use the business name. Similarly, we also encourage you to comply with the requirements of other government agencies such as the business permit from the city or municipality where you are located,” said Politud-Gabunales.

The local trade chief clarified that the business name certificate with a validity of five years is not a business permit and that business owners need to secure a business permit from their respective local government units.

Business name refers to any name that is different from the true name of an individual which is used or signed in connection to any written or printed business receipts, including receipts for business taxes, duties and fees, and withdrawal or delivery receipts; any written or printed evidence of any agreement or business transaction; and any sign or billboard conspicuously exhibited in plain view in, or at the place of business or elsewhere, announcing the business.

In 2022, Region 12 recorded a total of 14,743 new business name registration through the assistance of DTI field offices and Negosyo Centers. However, the public can register their business name all year round through the online portal bnrs.dti.gov.ph.  ♦
