CATANAUAN, QUEZON — DTI Quezon, through Negosyo Center Catanauan, participated in the Public Hearing regarding the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities in the Catanauan Public Market on January 26, 2023, at SB Hall, Municipal Bldg., Catanauan, Quezon. It was opened by Hon. Rixon B. Comiso, Chairman of the Committee on Economic Enterprises, states that the purpose of the public hearing is to discuss the issue of the privilege speech from Hon. Ederlinda SR. Ramos on January 16, 2023, about the rising commodity prices, particularly of fresh pork and vegetables.
Several meat shops and stall owners in the public market were present at the public hearing to justify their prices and to speak out about their concerns about “habal-habal vendors.” Hon. Tony Avila tackled the market code and illustrated some legal actions for them. It was explained that there is an existing local ordinance regarding illegal vendors.
Leah Maris S. de Imus, NCBC, gave a brief orientation on R.A. 7581, the Price Act. She discussed the different implementing agencies and enumerated their jurisdiction over commodities. Also present in the activity was Mr. Rigor Peñaverde, an agriculturist, who shared insights on the issues. He strongly suggested the creation of the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC). ♦
